April 12 - COVID-19 in Westchester County, NY

Here are the updated charts with data through April 11, 2020. Click on a chart to enlarge it.

This is Day 19 of this blog topic. The New Cases in Westchester had already 'peaked' 19 days-ago. Since then, it appears that Westchester has just been sitting on that peak. Today's plot of new cases includes a curve that has the same 'duration' as the Bergamo Italy New Case curve. This curve (orange line) predicts that if the Westchester epidemic has the same duration as the Bergamo epidemic, it will be April 27 before the New Case Count drops below 100 per day.

The New Death Count for Westchester jumped to 72 for a total of 461 deaths. (The County death reporting has been delayed in the past. It was obtained through local newspapers who received it from County officials. The State is now reporting county by county deaths on a daily basis.)  This increases the Westchester death rate to 2.5% of confirmed cases (461/18729).

The New Cases reported by NYC, Westchester, and Nassau were all about the same on a per capita basis.

The influenza-like illness detected by Kinsa continues to drop to unexpected levels for Westchester, but still exceeds the level for the USA overall.

Clinical Studies
There is an unprecedented effort to come up with therapies for COVID-19. Several Life Sciences companies have formed a consortium to coordinate searches for therapies. The FDA already lists about 200 clinical studies that have been submitted. It seems encouraging until one reads the "expected completion dates." They are all well into the future.
