This article is one in a series of a daily accountings of Colden Store transactions. Be sure you read the first installment for an introduction to the store. You should also read this article which appeared in the Journal of the Orange County Historical Society.

A drawknife was used to shave small amounts of wood from a large piece. It was similar to a plane, but with more width. Unlike a plane which was pushed away from the carpenter, the drawknife was pulled towards the craftsman with both hands.

In the prior eight months, at least six drawknifes were sold at the Colden store for five shillings, or about a day's wages for a carpenter.

Mondays were typically the busiest day of the week at the Colden store. On this Monday, 250 years-ago, 76 items were sold to 21 customers.
